The History behind Jax & Co. Shop
I started this retail shop as an ode to my love for supporting small businesses and finding unique pieces. I wanted a little shop where people could come and find a gift or a piece to “fill their cup”. Something that brings them joy to use, wear, or have!
Where does the name Jax & Co. come from?
Jax is a play on my last name, Jackson. The ampersand is one of my favorite characters because of its broken infinity symbolism meaning that “nothing lasts forever but there’s always an and”. Add in Co. because life is better when you’ve got company alongside you. Here you have Jax & Co. Shop!
What is your favorite product in your shop?
Right now, I’m torn between our Hair Candy by Han earrings and our Homebody bath soaks. We were able to carry Homebody CBD soaks when they were sold out nationwide and before they made it into any major retailers! They’re a black-owned business that cares about holistic use of their product. For the earrings, Hannah is based in Oklahoma and I found her through social media. Now she’s such a huge cheerleader for us and it just feels so nice to be able to connect so closely with a creator that I can support by carrying their pieces.
What inspires you in your business?
The creative drive coupled with the passion for supporting small businesses and creators! The corporate world wasn’t scratching my creative itch and this business allows me to follow my passions and source inventory from creators all over the globe. The research, communication, and curating for this business truly inspires me, especially when I am able to learn about why creators are passionate.
What advice do you have for other small business owners?
Do it! Honestly, just do it. Even if you need to do it after your corporate role, on weekends, or with the help of your friends and family, do it. If it fills your cup, if it fulfills you, if it makes you feel valued, do it. Life is short and your passion for whatever your business is will show through and it will set you apart. On the days your roommate has to help you set up at 7am, the times you get your nieces and nephews to help you on a big wholesale order, on the nights where you’re up planning the content you know you can’t get to later in the week - it’s worth it if you’re filling your cup and making yourself proud.
