My Chemical Peel Experience

I’d like to start off by saying I’m not a medical professional so everything in this post is based on my personal experience. If you are interested if any type of facial or peel I’d highly recommend consulting with a professional.

I started visiting Honey Skincare Studio last year when I was struggling with my acne after the switch from birth control to an IUD. I’ll write another blog post about my skincare journey but the chemical peel has been by far (in my opinion) the most challenging facial I’ve received. We’ve been prepping for my skin for the last few months for this peel with serums and retinol. I regret not taking more pictures to. show you the daily progress but the final result was worth it.

Day of Chemical Peel - I went in for a normal facial, no extractions (YAY) and then the peel was a small cloth with a few passovers on my face. The worst part was the first wipe that had acetone and the smell was brutal. Immediately following I was red but no other major signs. I left with moisturizer and strict instructions to follow for the following days as my skin began to peel.

An important note, you can not heavily sweat until your skin is healed so highly recommend doing this at a time when you’re okay giving yourself a break for at least a week.

2 Days After - this is when the peeling began around my nose and my mouth. Nothing dramatic but I definitely started to feel the tightness around my face.

3 - 5 Days After - Truly when the fun started. I woke up and it seemed like the top layer of my skin started to come off overnight. She showed me a video on what this would look like but I was definitely not prepared. While this is not painful, it was SUPER itchy and the worst part is, you can’t pick it off. You have to just let it come off naturally so you don’t scar the fresh skin. This was more mental for me than anything because it’s hard to go out or see people. I was not fully prepared for this or not being able to workout. I’m embarrassed to admit how many times I ordered food off uber eats, but I didn’t feel comfortable going out.

6-7 Days After - The peeling only remained around the outer edges of my face but super minor. I was pretty much healed at this point and returned to my exercise routine. I kept this little spray bottle in my purse that I would spritz if my skin felt tight and I was very careful not to touch my face.

8-9 Days After - The skin was finally done peeling and I was able to use my face wash and begin using my normal face products (i.e. retinol, acne pads, etc.)

At first I didn’t see much of a result to be honest. It wasn’t until I got my normal skincare routine back that I started to notice a difference. The overall texture and tone had completely evened out. I still have a few scars that will take some time and more treatments to heal but if you have a big event or for any future brides out there, this peel is a must!! I scheduled it two months prior so I still have time for two more treatments.
