Micro-Wedding
Planning & Design
When Collin and I decided to postpone our wedding in July 2020, we were already a year into our engagement. As I’m sure most of my COVID brides can attest, it’s not an easy decision to postpone your big day especially when it’s completely out of your control but life must go on! Thankfully – we have an amazing wedding planner who jumped right in, contacted the vendors and got everything switched to 2021. Stay tuned for my future post on why you should hire a planner.. exactly for reasons like this!!
After lots of discussion with our friends and families, we decided, why wait! We wanted to go ahead with our original date, November 20th and get married.
Due to the restrictions that were in place for the number of people at a gathering, we decided to keep it to our immediate families. After reviewing a few hotels, we quickly narrowed it down to the Conrad in DC. It gave us the perfect modern city vibes that we wanted for this dinner. The wine room was a private space, with a beautiful mural and a private outdoor patio. We asked our wedding planner to run free with the design and let me tell you.. she did not disappoint. It was BEYOND anything I could have ever imagined. The details were everything including monogrammed passports for each guest to use when we travel to Cancun this upcoming year. We wanted a completely different vibe from what our upcoming wedding will be.
On the 20th, Collin & I met an officiant at our home in Virginia and got married in our living room. No flowers, no frill, just the three of us and Otto. We took a video using my phone and a tripod. You can hear otto munching on a bone the entire time (LOL). After it was official, we picked up Starbucks to celebrate and headed back to the hotel. Collin left for lunch with his brothers and groomsmen and I got ready in our room with my bridesmaids. Before dinner, we went to the monuments with our photographer to take pictures. We honestly could not have asked for better weather. The golden hour lighting was perfection. Once we got back to the hotel, we took family pictures and had dinner. My dad gave a toast but other than that, there were no speeches. We got to spend the night as a family, enjoying each other’s company and it was perfect. Better than I could have ever imagined.
Now that I look back, I cannot imagine it any other way. It was perfect. Also, who doesn’t want two weddings!? So if you were looking for a sign to move forward with a micro wedding – this is it!! I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. How lucky am I that I get to marry my best friend twice?
As we move forward for planning at our original date this upcoming November, I’ll share the ways we’re making this celebration special in it’s own way!
